Five years ago, a woman on her summer vacation in Eastern Pιlio decided to leave her laid-back life in Athens after seeing the tragic situation with the strays. She moved permanently to Pιlio and founded the “Animal Welfare of East Pιlio” charity.

Without help, she had to find vets nearby, shelter for the animals, food, and money. Since then, she has rented fields and built fences; she rented houses purely for the use of hosting animals. She spent countless sums of money, and little by little, the world began to learn about this little philanthropy which consists of people counted on the fingers of one hand.

Five years later, “Eastern Pιlio Animal Welfare” is 100% active. They have helped thousands of strays and made over 800 legal adoptions. In this
over 400 neutering dogs and more than 700 cats have been carried out.
